What to Consider When Choosing a Fishing Trip Location

While January isn’t the busiest fishing month of the year in most places, it’s never too early to get started on planning fishing trips for the spring, summer, and fall of 2023.

Any angler who’s gone on enough fishing trips – and even those who haven’t – know that it’s a decent investment and not something you can take lightly. You’ll want to have the best trip possible, so you’ll have to choose the exact right location. Here are some things to take under consideration when making that decision:

An Unfamiliar Location

One of the best parts about going on a fishing trip is trying something new. You don’t have to fish in a similar body of water to the one you’re used to at home at the time of year you’d normally fish. If you’re from the Southern United States and have trouble standing the summer heat, head on up north or to Canada. If frozen lakes prevent you from fishing in the winter and early spring, head down south. Normally in a medium-sized lake? Try a different body of water or at least one of a different size.

Good Lodging

The best fishing trips don’t just feature going to a new location and occasionally fishing – they’re about immersing yourself in the experience. The only way to do that is to stay in a lodge near the body of water you’re fishing in. This will allow you to fish the entire day and not worry about when to get back, traffic, or anything else.

When you’re looking for a lodge or camp for your trip, consider how important seclusion is to you. Fishing provides more solitude than most other activities, but your regular fishing spot is likely accessible to many people. If you stay in the right lodge, you and your party will be secluded, surrounded by nature and the wilderness.

If you’re looking for a secluded spot to take a fishing trip in 2023, Mattice Lake Outfitters has three fly-in fishing camps and more than a dozen remote lakes.
